Iconic Viaduct favourite introduces a taste of New Orleans

American Express Restaurant Month is the most incredible time to be eating out. Bars and eateries across Auckland get to take a step out of the ordinary in August to bring us the extraordinary, usually at delightfully affordable prices. And my pick for one of the best of the month is NOLA!

This August, Soul brings the bohemian extravagance of New Orleans to the popular Viaduct with NOLA! The bar and bistro, known for turning meals into memories and exciting guest chef collaborations, celebrates American Express Restaurant Month in Auckland with a medley of Southern deliciousness.

Not only will the 2018 James Beard Best Chef South Winner, Nina Compton, take over the SOUL kitchen on Thursday August 23rd, but the restaurant will also feature a NOLA limited edition menu inspired by the colours, textures, flavours and food trends of New Orleans for the whole month of August.

Finally, this restaurant month will come to an end with a Oh La La NOLA themed edition of the (in)famous SOUL Punch event on Sunday August 26th.

SOUL goes NOLA restaurant month menu – August 2018

Earlier this year in New Orleans, on a trip filled with extensive research, culinary jam-sessions, and many tastings, the SOUL team created this Restaurant Months’ SOUL goes NOLA menu. Determined to bring back the best of this extremely creative culinary hub and give Auckland a taste of the flavours and textures of New Orleans, with local New Zealand produce. This limited edition menu ($40 for 2-course, $50 for 3-course and a supplement of $18 for a Church Road wine pairing) will only be available for lunch and dinner during the month of August.

Nina Compton goes SOUL – Dinner 23 August

To top it all off, 2018 James Beard winner and New Orleans based chef Nina Compton will take over the SOUL kitchen for a night on August 23rd. She brings the best of her signature restaurants Compère Lapin and Bywater American Bistro (BABs) to the SOUL kitchen for this exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime collaboration. For one dinner only, Nina and SOUL chef Gavin Doyle will co-create a beautiful culinary medley featuring the best of New Orleans and New Zealand. This menu will include canapés, a welcome drink, a five course family-style dinner with matching Church Road wines and San Pellegrino water ($195,- per person). There is limited seating as this exclusive experience will be available on August 23 only.


An extra edition will be added to the (in)famous SOUL PUNCH events that turn Auckland’s Sundays into Sindays. This last Sunday of August (26th), as of noon SOUL is putting the party in your Sunday lunch (PUNCH), New Orleans style with an afternoon of food, drinks and music. Get your dancing shoes and beads ready as this is going to be one for the books.

In short, get your southern swing on and head down to SOUL this August. Or as they say in New Orleans ‘Pass a good time’.
