I’ve been writing about, creating, playing with, testing, judging and enjoying food and drink, both for the love of it, and as a job, for magazines, newspapers and websites in New Zealand and the UK for years. After a lot of encouragement from people whose opinions I trust, I decided it’s about time I write for my own brand. It took me long enough! So, welcome to Eatscooksreads.
Eatscooksreads is based on what I’ve been looking for myself in a New Zealand website: a brand about New Zealand food, drink, produce, provenance, restaurants, producers, authors and creators. It’s not a health food site – there’s plenty of treats here to enjoy! – but it is about ‘wellness’: that is, making the most of what you have, without spending a fortune, and enjoying what you put in your mouth.
Eatscooksreads is aimed at New Zealanders who love cooking, eating and drinking, and who are looking for more recipes, inspiration and information, but are also aware of budget and food ethics. It does matter what happens to our food before it reaches our plate – good food has been treated well a long time before it gets into our kitchens – but not many of us have an unlimited bank balance. Eatscooksreads is about utilising what we have, as best we can, using food that’s traceable and delicious, and making the most of our dollar.
New Zealand is a small country, and I believe wholeheartedly in looking after our own: this means championing Kiwi brands as much as possible, keeping up with Kiwi news and achievements, and making sure good products and innovations are recognised.
I hope you enjoy what you find on this site, and I’m always keen to hear from you. Eatscooksreads is designed for everybody.
Have a great day,
