What’s Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering?
New Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering has been clinically proven to reduce LDL (or bad) cholesterol by up to nine✝ percent in just four weeks. And with Kiwi statistics , showing around one in four NZ adults need to manage their cholesterol levels for their heart health, there’s never been a better time to fill up the cereal bowl with nutritious, tasty goodness!
The first cereal product in New Zealand to harness plant sterols, new Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering contains 2 grams of plant sterols per serve, the recommended daily intake to reduce cholesterol, alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Plant sterols are known to naturally lower cholesterol by reducing the absorption of bad cholesterol in the digestive system. They are found in a variety of foods like grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds but only in very small quantities. With new Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering, plant sterols are harnessed to effectively reduce cholesterol levels by up to nine✝ percent in a single serve (two biscuits) consumed daily.
Packed with wholegrains, new Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering is also low in sugar and saturated fat, and contains iron, B vitamins and magnesium. And the best bit? It has the same great Weet-Bix taste that Kiwis know and love!
Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering’s effectiveness was verified via a clinical trial conducted in 2016 by a team of researchers at the University of South Australia.
Rob Scoines GM of Sanitarium NZ says the company is dedicated to improving Kiwi lives through better nutrition. “We know that maintaining good heart health is one of the most important considerations for making a significant and positive impact on the long term wellbeing of New Zealanders.
“Weet-Bix has long been a nutritious breakfast staple for thousands of New Zealanders every day and we are now taking it to another level. This new product makes it easier than ever before for New Zealanders to take charge of their heart health,” he says.
Professor Peter Clifton who led the clinical trials says small reductions in cholesterol can have a significant impact on overall heart health long term, especially when achieved at an early age and maintained over time.
“While increasing your intake of plant sterols is one of the most effective dietary measures to lower cholesterol, getting sufficient amounts in plant foods alone can be difficult,” says Professor Clifton.
“The new breakfast food is the most innovative cholesterol lowering product I’ve seen in 15 years. Breakfast is an essential part of every diet, so combining the cholesterol-lowering properties of plant sterols into a cereal product is a clever solution to one of the biggest health challenges we face in our busy, modern lives,” he says.
New Weet-Bix Cholesterol Lowering (RRP $7.69; 440g) is available in supermarkets nationwide from mid-October 2017.
