New Spring Menu launches at Mr Toms
Ponsonby hotspot’s latest dishes a hit
Known for their cheeky tipples and delicious food, Mr Toms has fast become a Ponsonby local favourite, with busy trade 7 days a week. It’s the kind of place you go when you want to meet up for a drink, then see what happens – and invariably I end up staying a lot longer than I intended!
I do love a decent cocktail, and the bar team at Mr Toms are really into their cocktail creations. The menu is changed up quite regularly, but the current cocktail list includes a Gimlet Verde – Celery Gin, Tanqueray Gin, parsley, fresh lime, sugar and salt; and my personal favourite, Rebel Without A Cause (right), which is made up of Talisker, mezcal, lime, pink grapefruit, green chilli and agave. This Sh*t is Bananas (far right) is a long, lovely cocktail that’s perfect for sunnier weather too.
I’m a sucker for a share plate; there’s something lovely about getting a couple of nibbly bits on the table, and Mr Toms menu caters well for that: spicy edamame beans, karaage chicken, tiger prawn skewers, short rib tacos – and my particular favourite, coconut poached chicken lettuce cups – are all on the menu. If you`re after something a bit more substantial, the main menu is pretty extensive, including pizzas, salads and steaks. And until the end of Spring Mr Toms has ‘$20 Steak Night’ every Wednesday – the perfect midweek treat!
